Jeffrey claims Pairin is suffering from memory loss

The Kitingans, Pairin and Gapari

Published on: Sunday, July 22, 2012

Kota Kinabalu: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) President Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan is resorting to making up stories and mogunsamang (talking nonsense) to try to retain his support among voters in Keningau and Tambunan, according to his brother, Star Sabah Chairman Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan.

In a statement, Saturday, Jeffrey said Pairin was also trying hard to curry more favour with his BN bosses.

He was responding to Pairin's accusation that "my own brother (Dr Jeffrey) took his friends from Yayasan Sabah with him and as a result we lost the Kadazandusun people there."

"I am shocked that my brother's memory is already failing him," said Jeffrey.

"He has already forgotten that I was dismissed from my post as Yayasan Sabah Director after the Umno/BN government wrested away power from PBS in 1994."

"And he should also know that I was about to sue the government for wrongful dismissal, but they decided to avert a trial and paid me an out-of-court settlement," he added.

"Under such circumstances, how was I to take away my friends, and where would I take them to?"

He also reminded Pairin that the reason there are no Kadazandusuns in senior positions in Yayasan Sabah today is because the State BN Government decided to radically reduce the number of employees in Yayasan Sabah in 2001 or 2002 by offering them VSS packages.

"And most of those affected were Kadazandusun officers," Jeffrey said, adding, "so how on earth did Pairin come up with the silly idea that I was the cause of them leaving Yayasan?"

Jeffrey also regretted that in a speech in Tambunan on Friday night, Pairin questioned why the people were supporting the opposition when the Government is busy giving away gifts to the people in the form of gravity water, balairaya and others.

"Is Pairin saying that after 49 years of independence, BN is only able to give gravity water and balairayas?" he asked.

"Why not give something more substantial like piped water, roads for the villages, and economic programmes to make them financially self-reliant?

"It is exactly because of this lethargy of the Government that is causing the people to look for change, and they see this opportunity in the opposition parties which have more innovative ideas."

He said what the government should be doing is kick-starting the economy of the people in the Interior and the State, instead of continuing to do the same things which have made the State the poorest in the country.

"Pairin is so proud of the formation of the RCI (Royal Commission of Inquiriy on Illegal Immigrants) and claims that PBS is still speaking up for the people's rights," he said.

"But Pairin is now spending most of his time praising the BN leadership and no longer speaking for the people.

"And the RCI is not even moving, and it is obvious it was announced to shut the people up about the urgency of solving the problem of illegal immigrants."

Umno members urged to prioritise loyalty

Salleh Said Keruak officiating the UMNO Divisional Meeting

KOTA BELUD (July 15, 2012): Sabah Umno liaison deputy chief Datuk Seri Salleh Said Keruak has called on Umno members to prioritise loyalty and solidarity to ensure the continuity of the party's struggle.

In making the call, he said this was vital because it was the party which would form the government and not individuals.

"We must be loyal to our struggle and will not betray the party. Loyalty has to be maintained at all times to ensure the party's strength," he said in his speech when officiating Umno Kota Belud division's annual delegates meeting, here today.

Salleh, who is Umno Kota Belud division head, said members must show total loyalty to the party and not just a half-hearted struggle for self interest.

"We don't want any two-faced members in our party," he said adding that their struggle for the party should be consistent and placed the party's interest above all.

Salleh also urged party members to take a proactive step to uphold the good reputation of Umno.

"We want them to adopt a people-friendly approach, casting aside egoism and the practice of self interest. We must also show moderation so that the party is always seen by the people to be associated with goodness or good deeds.

"We should not underestimate the intelligence and knowledge of our voters. We must be versatile, sensible and professional in our approach without being emotional, especially in explaining the party's mission and policy," he said.

Salleh, who is also Sabah Legislative Assembly Speaker, also wanted Umno members to be more aggressive in their efforts to win the hearts and minds of the people ahead of the 13th general election.

He said Sabah had enjoyed rapid economic development under the leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman, noted for taking the state's financial status to greater heights with record state reserves of more than RM3 billion. and who was also instrumental in putting in place the state's blueprint development agenda and the Sabah Corridor Development (SDC). – Bernama

PBS gains with return to Barisan

ADECADE after it rejoined the Barisan Nasional (BN), Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) can look back with a sense of satisfaction that it made the right decision.
.
Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan (second from left) and his party, who have discovered the benefits of harmony within the state Barisan Nasional led by Datuk Seri Musa Aman (left), with other BN component leaders at the PBS Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house last year.

Known for being vocal to the extent of being branded as confrontational and parochial when raising issues involving the state, the party's decision to return to the BN's fold did not come easy. It had to consider the feelings and sentiments of its supporters who appeared content with the party's vocal stance, although such an approach proved fruitless.

In fact, the PBS had endeared itself to the people because it was vociferous. Formed 27 years ago, the PBS, which was in power in Sabah from 1985 to 1994, ditched the BN on the eve of the 1990 general election.

Although the PBS successfully won the state election in 1994 albeit with a simple majority, barely two months later it had to surrender power to the BN after several of its assemblymen joined Umno.

The next eight years before its return to the BN family in 2002 made the party realise that it had to change its approach when presenting its case to the Federal Government on issues pertaining to the interest of the state and the people. The party had come to accept that being vocal does not necessarily bring the desired results. In fact, such a stance had only led to animosity and given rise to suspicion, to the detriment of the party.

It was time the party embraced a new approach, hence the decision to re-apply to join the BN in 2002.

With it back in the BN, it adopted what it calls the 3C (consultation, communication and cooperation) approach.

"The 3C approach has proven to be more effective in getting ourselves heard," said PBS vice-president Datuk Radin Malleh, who credits party president Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan for the decision to rejoin BN.

Among the latest positive results arising from PBS' return to the BN is the federal government's approval for the setting up of the Kadazan-Dusun-Murut (KDM) College in Pairin's hometown of Tambunan. The launching of the KDM College by Datuk Seri Najib Razak, indicated the cordial ties between the KDM community and the prime minister.

Another notable struggle of the PBS that has come to fruition was the declaration of Sept 16, the day Malaysia was formed, as a national public holiday by the federal government. But despite the many positive things that have come following the PBS re-entry into the BN, some continue to hurl unwarranted negative remarks against the party.

Among them is the perception that the party has become "toothless" and that it no longer dared to speak up for the people.

"The people should know by now that we have achieved much more of what we have been fighting for by adopting the 3C approach.

"Being vocal does not necessarily yield the results we want," Malleh said.

With the 13th general election expected to be called soon, the people of Sabah will have a choice between embracing the PBS' 3C approach which has obviously borne results or the politics of hate propagated by the opposition, particularly the State Reform Party helmed by Pairin's political nomad brother Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan.

The people should not allow themselves to fall into the trap of the opposition who are fond of playing up emotions to garner support and sympathy.

JANGAN LEMPAR BATU SEMBUNYI TANGAN

Irine fernanadez-Going around the bushes mengenai isu amah.

janganlah berkelakuan "going around the bushes".

Pemimpin Islam jadi 'balaci'

  Zulkifli Noordin
KUALA LUMPUR 27 Feb.

Gugurkan tuntutan

KOTA KINABALU 10 Jan.
